Today for the third time in as many weeks, my 2007 model Kia Sportage stalled about 5 seconds after starting and would not restart. The first time cost me a considerable sum $$ after the dealer replaced a few sensors and other components. Today, after the third time stalled, I called the dealer and they sent someone out who banged on the fuel tank with a rubber hammer, shocking the integral fuel pump and that resulted in the engine starting!

Diagnosis - sticking fuel pump and the pump needs to be replaced. Given the fuel pump is over $300.00 plus labor to replace, I was wondering if replacement was totally necessary. Is a sticking, but not failed, fuel pump somehow serviceable?

Thanks
