With the advent of electric power steering, it gets me thinking about changing the weight to suit my preference. The new Hyundai i30 has three state user-selectable steering weight and i think that's brilliant. You can customise everything else, so why not the comfort level of the steering?

Anyone know if the PCM has been hacked on the Gamma 1.6 yet, and if so if the steering weight is changeable? I want to lighten it a bit once the car gets moving as it seems very disproportionate to me.

Nothing in the service manual. That doesn't mean that someone hasn't hacked into it.

You could try at dealer level. It all depends how much access dealers have to the ECU. Kia might be abit more lenient.

Otherwise, you could try Chaser's in Footscray to see if they could do something to get you lighter weighted steering. The ECU will control it. It will cost you though.
