A lot of hyundai/kia models from around 2010 with electric assisted steering are affected by a problem where a small coupler wheel between the steering column/motor disintegrates and causes a clunking noise in the steering column.

Other models like soul, elantra, etc are affected by this. Do the rio/accent suffer from this too?

I have only heard of this for certain Optimas and Sonatas. And not a recall but a warranty extension. My brother in law has a Soul and ended up fixing it himself.

230,000 KM on my Rio with no issues. Dealer or Kia haven't said a thing to me.

After digging into various parts catalog, the rio uses a different coupler part, that apparently doesn't suffer from the same problem.
