After 10 months of ownership and 16,000 miles the silver coloring on my shift knob is coming off. The white plastic underneath is now showing on the top of the knob. The dealer said they would replace it under the warranty with the same part.

I thought the highest trim levels had metal inserts on the trim. is this true? Does any one know if I they will replace just the trim or does it need to be the entire knob?

I would pay a bit more to have metal there. Then this would never be an issue again.

The spec sheet for the (Canadian) EX trim and up lists 'Metal-grain trim plates'.

I've looked, and have no idea what they are referring to.
