I recently had a remote starter professionally installed in my 2009 Borrego EX - old fashioned key start - no push button start. The way it is supposed to work is, after using the remote to start the engine, the doors are supposed to lock. And, in fact, they do lock, but after a second or two, they unlock again. It appears that the remote starter module is doing its job by locking the doors, but the Borrego is not liking having the doors locked with the engine running (and no key in the ignition) and it automatically unlocks the doors. I want to remote start and warm the vehicle without someone being able to enter the vehicle and steal my briefcase, etc. Anyone familiar with the details of the automatic door locking and unlocking features? Very little information in the owner's manual other than a note to see the dealer about them possibly being able to reprogram certain features. Any thoughts, suggestions or solutions out there?

I doubt you'll be able to beat that one without some reprogramming of the KIA system, and that ain't gonna happen.

I know it's been a few months since the first post, but I have an aftermarket remote starter and the same thing happens on mine. However, with mine I noticed the doors unlock when I use the remote starter and the headlight switch is set to "Auto". When the switch is set that the headlights are always on (one notch before the "Auto") the doors remain locked when I use the remote starter. Maybe it's the same for yours.

Yes, Light Switch Position Makes a Difference

Hello Sithdad and thanks for posting.

Yes, I should have posted this "solution" when I first learned of it, but it didn't occur to me to post it. My bad.

When I eventually got a chance to get an appointment with the installer, they had me bring the vehicle in to their shop where they informed me of this "solution." Why they didn't just tell me that on the phone or, better yet, just tell me that is the way it would work when they installed it, I don't know.

Actually, from the "that's not a bug, it's a feature" point of view, I've found that it actually works out well for me this way. The vast majority of the time, I am using the remote starter in my driveway in the morning before leaving for work. At home, I'm not concerned about someone entering the vehicle while it is warming up, so I can keep the switch in "auto" and not have to unlock the doors before getting in and driving away.

I just must remember to have the switch in "on" if I am going to use the remote starter when away from home.

Why the light switch position should affect the lock operation, I have no idea. As long as it gets the job done, I'm satisfied.
