I bought a used 2002 Kia Rio (5 speed) and I love it! I've had it for about 2 months. My issue is: the belts often make a squealing sound. I've noticed it's often whenever it's much colder or much warmer than usual. Sometimes it's so bad that there is white smoke and the smell of burning rubber. I usually turn on and off the car a couple of times. Sometimes I can drive it and it goes away after a minute, but sometimes it's so bad that I need to wait to drive it.
I've had the belts adjusted at my mechanic's three times now. They can't figure out why the belts keep moving. Is there a part that could be expanding and contracting with the temperature changes that I should replace? I live in CT, so it NEEDS to work in the cold temperatures.
