FYI,Took my Borrego in for an oil change and was told there was a bulletin out on replacing a brake switch. The dealer replaced it and I left. The next day I was driving a highway approx. 45 MPH in cruise control and traffic in front of me was slowing down so I applied the brake and tried to slow down however the engine accelarated. I immediately put the gear shift in neutral and then hit the cruise control switch, the car started slowing down. After collecting my thoughts I waited until there was no traffic, got up to 30mph, put on cruise, hit the break and the same thing happened. I immediately called the dealer informed the service Mgr. what had happened and took it to them. The Mgr. drove the car and the same thing happened to him. He said the replaced switch was bad and was not releasing the cruise control or throttle thus the engine starts to accelerate. They replaced the switch and it is so far working. I was very lucky my wife was not driving the car as she would not have thought of putting it in neutral or disconnecting the cruise control, she would have stood on the brake and had an accident. If that would have happened it would have been another one of the stories I've read about with engines rev. out of control. I myself was within seconds of rear ending another vehicle but quick thinking averted that.

Most drivers would not have had the quick thinking and reaction you did. Good job.
Back when Toyota was having the acceleration problems, I told my wife and kids that if it ever happened to them, to do exactly as you did...put it in neutral and apply the brakes and NEVER turn off the key until you completely stop or you will lose the steering. Now I'll also tell them that if cruise control is on...turn it off.

Several years ago, I had to have mine replaced also. Mine would not start. Anyone with a Borrego should bring it in for a replacement brake switch. I do not know if it is a recall issue, but, it should be.

The brake stop lamp switch is a recall (SC098). So is the brake pedal (SC096).
Any Kia dealer can tell you if these have been done by checking the VIN.
