Hi everyone,

So I've had my van for almost a year now and I think it's time for a wiper change all around. Tons of options for the front wipers but am I really limited to having to buy my rear wiper from the dealership?

Is there not an option to just replace the rubber blade and not the whole arm assembly?

Thank you!

Not that I'm aware of. Most SUV's fall into this category.

Unless you use your rear wiper all the time when it rains, or to wash off grime, you should be OK for a few more years.

Take a paper towel, dribble rubbing alcohol on it and wipe the rubber blade by pinching the towel against the blade edge. (also do this with your fronts.) You will clean off any residue build up and oil/grease from road grime. This will help extend the life of the blades. But, once a blade has a micro chunk missing you start to streak and its downhill from there.

First, check condition of rubber insert for cracks and in general.
Clean it, you can then apply rubber rejuvenator or something like this (that I use)
Replace wiper blade.

I live in rainy BC right on the coast and just replaced rear wiper on Sportage first time in 5 years. Yours may show much more abuse due to snow and salt you experience thou.
If I were you I'd prolly wait till summer is over to replace the blade as summer heat would dry up the rubber and cause it to start cracking.

I just got mine yesterday and have not gotten the chance to look, but, is it not possible to remove just the insert and fit another from a conventional wiper? I would imagine some trimming is necessary.

Kia OEM replacement wiper blade is about $15 off ebay. I just bought one. Inserts have not been available commercially for quite a while now for any wiper blade applications. $15 is not that big a deal every 2-3 yrs. I can probably keep using mine, but it's starting to streak pretty badly.
