Have a 2011 Kia Sportage that was used about two to three nights ago to jumpstart an older model Chevy Malibu. Today noticed that the radio was on with no key in it. tried taking taking the battery cables off to rest computer but it didnt work. any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to fix this myself if i can without taking it to the dealership.

Until you can get this electrical issue properly diagnosed, pull the fuse for your radio.
That should save your battery
