Putting a newer engine into a 2015 soul+?

Can a newer engine be put into a 2015 Soul+? My oil pump went bad, apparently, and it looks like I need a new engine. (Only 84000 miles on it, but my understanding is that Kia's 100000 mile powertrain warranty does not transfer to second owners like me. Sigh.)

The 2015 engines I've found are over $3000 after shipping, whereas I found a 2018 engine w/ 6mo. warranty for $2600 shipped. As money is pretty tight the difference of $500 would mean a lot to me. I've heard that any second generation 2.0 engine (2014-2019) would work. But I would want to make absolutely certain of compatibility before ordering a whole engine. However I'm rather puzzled about how to find that info. From Kia directly? From the engine seller? Try to find a mechanic who has done or tried to do such an engine replacement before? Thanks!

It sounds like it would be better to buy a whole "salvage" car from IAAI.COM or COPART auctions... You can get a soul hit in the side or back with a "buy it now" for under $2000 and pull the engine and sell the usable parts on ebay...

Even with the $200 membership, auction fees, yard fees, and shipping you would be well under $2000...
I rebuild "salvage" cars for my friends and family members and know that buying a "donor" car many times is cheaper than buying all the parts from a salvage yard...

Thanks! It does seem like it would be pretty risky buying a salvage car sight unseen. It would have to be quite a bit of savings to make it worthwhile. I only found 4 2015 Souls on the site you linked to with a Buy It Now price of under $1500. There are more newer Souls available, which is one reason I'd really like to find out which year engines will work.

I did find a few more Souls going up for auction as opposed to Buy it Now. What do you think something like this would typically go for at auction? It's about 4 1/2 hours away from me, so in theory I could go and check it out myself.
