In the first place to forgive to write in Castilian. Alone to comment you a problem detected with the traction, system Torque on demand, of the sorento EXII, problem that takes to situations of danger in slopes with pavement deslizante, with tendency to leave of behind. For more reference:

click here to visit this information, this in Spanish, but it is very important

greetings to all!! :)

PD: Golom, me parecio perfecta tu idea, nos vemos en sorrentoweb ;)

Golom,

I looked at the Video and it looked as it was a frightening experience.

The ATT system is based on a Borg Warner transfer case, you should write them as well.

Hi guys,

The Sorento and the Terracan are not the first to use the TOD. Serious off roaders had the problems with it before us, look at:
http://www.planetisuzoo.com/articles.htm/109

The TOD is great for people who drive on roads and want the truck to select the 4 wheel drive modes for them, not people who understand the mechanics and go on serious off roading.

I edited my posts, if in LOW mode the front axle is not locked all the time, its a major issue, Hyundai and KIA must take care of it.

Hello Ilan,

I agree with you that it is mayor issue.
We have a lot of testimonies of experienced 4wd users with problems in descents
with slippery surface (sand, gravel, wet grass, snow).
This problem does not happen with manual tranfer case models.

It very easy to prove that tehe problem exists and that it is a serious issue.

1) Lift a front wheel (only one, the others three must stay on floor)
2) Get electric contact (do not start the engine), transfer selector in 4low mode.
3) With your hands try to turn the lifted wheel

In models with manual transfer case, you will not able to move de wheel. This is a prove that front axle is conected. This behaviour will be observed in 4High mode.

In models with automatic, inteligent, on demand, etc , tranfer cases you will be able to move the lifted wheel. This shows thant front axle is not conected. If other person will push the accelerator pedal (note that the engine is stopped) in that moment the wheel will be locked, the front axle is conected only when you demand power.

This is not a permanent 4wd
This is not a inteligent 4wd
This is not a safe 4wd

Be careful.

After reading this major topic, I'd just like to get a confirmation:

Is this problem just related to the Torque on demand feature?

Or applies for all 4wd Sorentos. My Sorento has the knob to select 4hi or 4lo, and it is Shiftronic?

Due to the importance of the matter I'd like your confirmation.

Hello, in Spain Hyundai Terracan and Kia Sorento users
(www.clubterracan.net
http://miarroba.com/foros/ver.php?foroid=2...d=3230686&pag=9)
has achieved that the spanish branches of their respectives car companies
have recognized the problem.
In the case of Terracan, me and other ClubTerracan members have had several conversations and meetings with Hyundai Spain. A group of Hyundai corean technicians and Borg Warner american specialist have visited Spain and finally they have developed a solution for us. Noboby in the rest of the world seems to be aware about this important matter so Hyundai is not planning a general world wide recall procedure. As you know Kia is a company of the Hyundai group.
Thinks can change if the rest of Terracan and sorento users begin to claim ...

Saludos cordiales

I own the 2005 Sorento XSE auto. I therefore presume it has the problem discussed above. ie I have an Auto and Low selectable options for the 4x4 drive. Am I right in thinking then that, (unless accelerating) I am in 2 wheel drive whichever option I have selected.?
I have just emailed Kia UK, have told them to wath this thread.
I hope they will read this and post their own reply. Here.
If they do not, I will post their reply to me.
Otherwise, I will be taking the matter further, and urge other UK owners to contact their dealers for a statement from Kia to all owners.
Its such a great car it would be a shame for bad press to ruin it.!!
Come on Kia respond.Thanks
