:angry: One year after I purchase my 2003 Sedona, the rear hatch paint started to bubble near the handle chrome plated faceplate. KIA recognized it has a problem since my KIA service centre made some repair free of charge based on Technical Service Bulletin. However, six month after this repair, the bubble is back and spreading fast. To me this problem appears to be a simple galvanic corrosion problem (caused by dissimilar metals in contact with each other).

Did anyone experience similar problem? What was the solution?

I am collecting my sedona in about 1 hour after having this work done on it.. + the £50 + vat a year they expect you to pay to keep the paintwork warranty is a total rip off. that car 03 sedona 25,000 miles was the biggest waste of 17K I have ever spent. it has been returned to the garage for various things at least once a month. and it looks like I am looking forward to a never ending rusting car too.. I had my volvo 740 GLT for six years with actual scratches to the metal that never went rusty.. what a bunch of cheap basic tat kia make.

rust update: when speaking to the dealership manager I asked if they had repaired many sedonas with this rust issue and he said "quite a few" I asked if I should keep an eye on it and he said that the handle had been replaced which was the manufacturing fault, apparently they were designed with no rubber gasket or something behind them, so every time the hatch was opened it scratched some paint off under the handle which then causes the rusting to appear underneath the handle. it has been fixed in newer versions.

hi my has been in three times and with a new seal around handle and it still rust come on kia replace the boot!

only for 6 year though (if you pay them £50 per year and fix any stone chips or mild scratches they tag as problems), how long should a £25,000 car last for before it gets scrapped?

There is not a car out there that wont get stone chips.. do you drive the car??? if so it is going to happen as there are stones on the road and when behind a car sometimes there tire hits a tiny pebble throws it back at you and theres the scratch.. Try going to a dealer in the usa with stone marks and get them to fix it under warrinty.. theyd laugh at you.

I had the same problem [amongst many others] and took my car back to the dealers for them to fix it under warranty. They screwed up the appointment so I had to re-book, then when they did the job, they just bodged it by flatting down the rust and fluffing over the repair with some paint. Within 2 months it was bubbling up again. They then had my car for a week at their bodyshop [some 45 miles away] and replaced the rear doorhandle and trim and repainted the boot. Time will tell...

I have to say they are a franchise... some dealerships will be very good some not. maybe try a "priory" instead of a smaller family business.
