From the home screen of the main screen, you can touch the upper right rectangle that should be displaying the currently playing media. On the next screen that comes up, there is a play/pause button. I believe that is the only way to pause streaming media.

I've just acquired a 2017 Kia Niro.
One thing that is driving me crazy is I can't figure out how to pause/play media.
I often listen to podcasts (iPhone) via bluetooth, with the main screen on navigation for example.
Then I wanted to pause the podcast (some is talking to me, or I need to pay attention to something, etc). I'm looking at the wheel and ... what? I can't figure out how to pause!! I have to clumsily reach the touchscreen (which is not very sensitive by the way), go to he Media section and press pause there.
Is that really the only way? Am I missing something?

Yes that's what I am currently doing. For example let's say my screen is on navigation, and I'm listening to a podcast. Suddenly I want to pay attention to something and quickly need to pause. In my previous car I would press the pause button on the wheel, and press back when I'm ready. Here I need to leave navigation, go to media, press hard on the touch screen, go back to navigation, etc
On my 2019, I just push the volume button like you would to mute.
