Hello you all. This will be my first thread on the main KIA Forums. I have gotten a lot of heated discussions on my old thread under ForteForums thread called Discussion on Oil Changes. There are a lot of DIY out there that get upset with people like me that needs to go to the dealer to get things done and other reasons.

This thread is open for everyone. Here is where I will explain why some of us need to go to the dealership. Going to the dealership has many advantages. One of the main advantage is they have a complete record of your service on your car. So if something does happen, it would be very difficult for them to deny warranty work. I know you heard this in other threads before but I don't think people get it until something major happens. I know DIY people has a point they feel better knowing what has been done to their car because they have done it themselves. I get that. I used to do it myself. BUT these new cars are much much more complex and complicated than the cars in the past. That could be a whole subject in itself.

I am getting off the subject a little bit here. This thread is about people with disabilities. Now I should explain why I have a thread like this. I am disabled and my wife and dad are disabled also. We all live together and help each other. We are down to one car so we can afford a really reliable car. About 2 months ago we bought a 2015 KIA Forte EX. We had to trade our 2013 KIA Soul Plus for the Forte because the Soul did not have for my dad's walker and eventually somedays I may need a walker too. There are other issues too.

A little about me. My wife types these messages out for me because I can not spell from brain damage from birth. I can read about 9th grade level if I keep reading. My physical problems are more complex. The doctors thinks I have celebrel palsy. That is their best guess and they will never know for sure.

I am not writing to so people will feel sorry for us. I am writing this so people realize it is not just DIY read and write on these threads but there is people go to the dealership and getting work done for a very good reason. By the way if anybody has doubt about our disabilities dad and me have handicap license plates plus we have tags to put up on the rear view mirror. They don't hand out handicap plates very easy. They are very difficult to get. At least here in Minnesota.

I think my wife is getting tired of typing right now but this thread like I said before is open to everyone and free to discuss about different subjects. I will try to put a view through to someone that is disabled.

I hope that I hear from everyone. I hope this subject doesn't scare anyone away. God bless you and be careful driving out there.

My wife is home now and it would be easier for communications. Thank you for the advice. I will do my best. If you see that I am doing something wrong please let me know. I greatly appreciate it.

The forms that I was talking about is in ForteForms. The one I mentioned earlier, is 2015 Forte Oil Change is the first one I responded to. A person on the thread said about this thread is for 1%ers that is DIY's or something like that. Sorry I am getting tired and having a hard time concentrating. Part of my condition. The other two threads in the ForteForms is discussion on oil changes and the other is discussion on tire.

If some of you experience members check the form out I would greatly appreciate it.

I noticed on ForteForms I can edit the messages. On this one I don't see how I can. On the other one I can say thanks. On this one I don't see how.

I see my wife made a mistake a missed a word. In the 2013 KIA Soul there was no ROOM for the walkers for my dad and me. That is why we got the Forte.

Lets keep it to this forum, ......anyone interested in your ForteForums posts can go there and comment there.

When it comes to personal attacks "doing your best" is fine as long as it results in zero personal attacks.

We understand by now that someone else is assisting with your posts, so there's no longer a need to labor that point.

I appreciate that you looked into it. My wife will keep me under control. Sometimes she says take a deep breath back off and take a break before I say something that could cause problems.

So you can see hopefully where my frustrations can come from. Thank your help and advice. I will keep on checking in everyday in the forms. Thank you very much.

Hello Snoweagle and welcome to the Kia forums.
There are a lot of disrespectful people out here who will park in Disabled parking Lots etc..
Over the phone a garage may think it is just one of those people trying to get special treatment. But if you make yourself familiar with a Garage and have repeat business I am sure they will accommodate your needs.

Thank you Jeff. We absolutely agree with you. I see that you are in England. The way you describe things over there it sounds like they have separate lots for the disabled people. If that is true I like that idea. Here in America there is parking spaces for disabled people. We get tags to put up on rear view mirror and/or special handicap license plates. We got both. Depends on what state you are in if you get caught without handicap tags or handicap plates in a handicap spot the fines are $100 up to $500 depends on where you are at in the United States. Here in Minnesota it is $200 and some places they would even tow away your car. I heard on one show that we like to watch named Parking Wars one guy got a ticket for $1,000 parking in a handicap spot using his mother's tag she was not there. So I do agree that they are a pain in the butt but I love it when they get caught. The laws are getting tougher.

The dealership that we go to is extremely good at helping us. They know us quit well. This is our fourth new KIA that we bought from them. I can't say enough on how nice they are. Plus, we can't beat their warranty. When you buy a new KIA from them they double the standard warranty to 20year/200,000 mile warranty. They really back up what they sell. They are always busy there and not with just KIAs.

Snoweagle, I am soon to be 50 years old. Physical disability is a late in life occurrence for me. I have peripheral neuropathy - basically nerve damage - in my feet and lower legs after battling cancer. I have a handicapped parking permit. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. I am 6 foot 2 and 195 pounds. I basically look like I did before losing 50+ pounds while battling cancer with the exception of not visible to the naked eye, nerve damage, appear to be in good shape. Constant pain and discomfort, constant swelling. I've had several occasions where I've been accosted while entering or exiting my car by the "you don't look handicapped" police - busy bodies basically. And as much as I hate to say it, all 5 times it happened, was by someone who was overweight. "You don't look disabled to me". The first 4 times I responded with simply "Well you don't like either the General Practitioner, Oncologist OR Neurologist that say otherwise". I will not share what happened the 5th time as I wasn't so polite. I also spent a lifetime working on my own cars, managing several Goodyear Tire & Service centers, as well as having been a service advisor at a few VW, Audi, Land Rover and Mercedes dealerships. Yes, there are most certainly dealership service departments that are too pricey and sometimes not on the up and up. But in the near 30 years I did what I did, I've seen just as many "independent" mechanics do things that would make your hair stand on end. I've dealt with dealership and independent mechanics that I wouldn't trust to check the air in my tires and I've dealt with some that could hand me a laundry list of things wrong with a car and I wouldn't second guess even one thing. I can still do somethings on the car myself but some I choose not to. I replaced the front and rear brake pads myself two months ago but today I took it to my dealer for an oil change and alignment. Granted I can't do the alignment myself but I certainly could have managed the oil change. I choose not to because I've had a great experience with my dealership service department and my service advisor, so I choose to give them the business. I've also had them service the transmission, flush the coolant and brake fluid as well as do a fuel system service. No one has tried to sell me a repair or service the car didn't need. YOU service your car where YOU feel comfortable. Sometimes good service - whether a barber or a mechanic - is worth paying more for. If I find an independent shop that I trust, I'd do the same. So ignore all the "internet engineers" and the internet opinions - hell ignore mine too lol, but do what YOU feel comfortable with whether it costs you $10 or $10,000.

Hey FormerAdvisr, my name is snowkat and my husband is snoweagle. When I read that part about you having peripheral neuropathy. My heart goes out to you because I have that same problem in just my left foot. Not only do have early stages of peripheral neuropathy in my left foot but I also have plantar fasciitis in the left foot. The pain sometimes is so great that NO pain killers can help me with the pain I have in my foot. I have arthritis in my lower back along with fat building up on the nerves. Like I said I feel your pain and my heart goes out to you.
