either a short or open in the ECM and TCM on the ECT circuit:

SPORTAGE(AL) >2001 > G 2.0 DOHC > Engine > Engine Control > P1115 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Signal From ECU to TCU
Diagnostic Trouble Code Diagnosis Charts
P1115
Water temperature signal malfunction
Threshold Value ~ Circuit continuity: No voltage
Enable Conditions ~ NA
Time Requirements ~ Continuous
MIL Illumination ~ 2 driving cycle

ACTION
1
With ignition off, connect adapter cable #K99U-2103-G17 to BOB, disconnect C211 from ECM and C229 from TCM.
Connect vehicle C229 to adapter cable (leave adapter cable C229 disconnected from TCM).
Measure resistance between BOB-33 and C211-68 (< 1 ohm).
Is measured resistance less than 1 ohm?
YES
Go to step 2.
NO
Locate source of high resistance or open and repair as necessary.
2
Measure resistance between BOB-33 and GND (infinite resistance).
Is measured resistance infinite?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Locate source of short to GND and repair as necessary.
3
Turn ignition on and measure voltage at BOB-33 (0v).
Is measured voltage 0v?
YES
Thoroughly check for loose, bent or corroded terminals between ECM and TCM.
NO
Locate source of short to B+ and repair as necessary.

Clear codes and return vehicle to original condition. Verify any repairs by driving vehicle with KIA Data Pro connected to OBD-II connector and monitoring for pending codes (refer to section 3 of the KIA Data Pro Generic OBD-II Program Card reference manual).

Best I can do right now.... Philip

P1624 is like a generic P0700. Information code only to let you know that there is a specific code in the TCM:

The TCM can request activation of the MIL lamp Via a communication line to the ECM. This is only a request from TCM to ECM to turn the MIL on. The fault code is stored in the TCM. Select A/T part on the Scantool and monitor DTC related automatic transaxle system.
The ECM illuminates the MIL and sets DTC P1624 if ECM detects that TCM requests "MIL ON". This error code determines diagnostic failure at TCM side.

If your scanner cant pull any codes from the TCM, then you may need a Kia factory scanner to pull the codes

I dont have schematics of the wiring or tools to perform such tests. I can get a used ecm from the junkyard.. would it be a good idea to try another ecm in the sportage?

You have an electrical issue that has affected several circuits..

I would start with a visual for broken, chafed, burned wires/connectors....

Also clean and secure all main BAT+ feeds, fuses and grounds.... Philip
