Hs anyone heard of 10W40? I looked at my 2001 Kia Rio manual and it says to put in 10W40 oil. Doers anyone else use that type?

Courious thanks

Thats far too heavy " viscous " an oil for Canada winters .

I recall the Mobil website having viscosity recommendations .

I use 30wt true synthetic all year round and the temps can get to 105F here , as low as 5F sometimes during winter . 30f is the norm in winter .

Regular oil like Mobil Clean 7500 you could use 5w-30 winter , 10w-30 summer as I recall .

5w30 in winter and you can use either 10w30 or 10w40 in summer months. I use the 10w40 in summer.....

I ran 10W40 in my old ford exp for years, really helped with the bit of oil burning. If you don't need it, don't use it.

I've been using castrol syntec 5W30 in my 02 rio since 20000 kms and haven't had a hitch.

If you really want to see the diff between oils, stick em out in -30 weather and see how viscous they are at that temp :)

too heavy. for canada, use 5w30 all year except between june 1-sept.30, when you should use 10w30. i find quaker state peak performance gave the best performance in my rio. trust me on this, i was in the automotive oil business and i live in toronto.
