Android Auto has been able to utilize the entire screen since the April 2022 navigation system update.
depends on what you mean by "utilize the entire screen". if you mean the map takes up the whole screen like CarPlay, the answer is "no" - there is a still a 3-inch box on the right of the screen but after the April update, that box now allows for display of the media (e.g. podcast or music) which you can pause/play/interact with which is definitely better than a blank black box!

The April update finally had the car tell Android Auto that the entire widescreen was available. At that point, it’s now up to Google to figure out what to put there. Before that, no matter what, all you could get on widescreen Kias was 2/3 of the screen. The rest would be empty or a Kia widget. Since the April update, the entire screen can be 100% Android Auto.

Many people didn’t realize what widescreen Android Auto was or what it looked like. It was this - one primary app and a sliver of some secondary information. But note it was all Android Auto. All information and interface from the phon

If you were someone who for some reason was desperate to have a single app span the entire screen, you could go into developer settings and reduce resolution to 1280 px wide and force the classic interface. Not very useful, but some wanted it:

Now Coolwalk is rolling out in beta. It makes the secondary widget slightly bigger. Here, compare old vs new:

But it does let you easily get the map full screen if you want (no resolution hack required), at least for Google Maps:

The most important thing about the April update was it gave Android users parity with iPhone users. Hyundai and Kia widescreens have had full screen support for iPhones since they were introduced in cars in early 2019. But even though Google brought widescreen support for Android Auto later in 2019, H/K took nearly three years to update their system software to look for it. At least they finally did. The rest is up to Google.
