I just put a used engine in a 99 sephia,,and it wont start ,not gettin any fire to plugs,howdo ya check the coils? And is there any kind of security systems on it that will dissable the ignition? the car ran before and I usd the old coils ,ect . tried the new ones(that came with engine)any sugestion, all the fuses are good under hood, are there any in dash board ?

coils are gone. get new ones. There is currently a set of coils and plug wires on www.ebay.com for 20.00. look there. I just bought a set from the guy!

I think I have the same problem. We just had quite a bit of snow here..and I had trouble getting it started on sunday. Went out today to start it up and nothing, no fire, the engine's not turning over and yet all of my interior devices are on, but it's acting like the battery died..is this the same problem?

well if it isnt cranking at all its not the plugs, wires, or coils. i suspect the alternator or starter motor! otherwise it would try to crank just wouldnt start..

We are having the same problem with our 2002 Kia Spectra. Granted it had been sitting for about two weeks during bad weather, but we started it regularly and let it run to keep things operating smoothly.

THEN, I decided to drive it into town to pay the yearly taxes and registration on it and ..... it wouldn't start! It would grind like it was going to start, but wouldn't turn over enough to actually start the engine.

I checked the battery, plugs, coils, and wires......put fresh gas in it, checked the fuses.... and nothing. It still won't start. Grrrrrr!

Any ideas? I am at my wit's end with this car.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

is the fuel pump turning on????? sit in back seat while someone turns key to on position. have your head down on the seat you will hear it for like 2 seconds then shut off it is supposed to do this it is preasurizing system. if not fuel pump problem. if so there are 2 recalls on the sephia for this.

Hmmm...... you explained that well. I realized, though, that it IS trying to crank, but just won't start. Does that change your diagnosis?

what about your battery? what are the cold cranking amps rated for? you might need to upgrade to a better battery.

a battery shouldnt be an issue unless he put in 2 dd energizers lol.
a 400 cca battery is what comes stock im sure he/she has at least that.

Battery tests fine. The spark is jut not getting to the system.....I'm wondering if the problem might be in the computer system.....

what are all the codes? also if you replace something (one of the codes) does it lose any or gain more? things we need to know.
