purchased a Borrego v6 4wd with 67000 on it and have a slight rattle when first fired up and it also has a ticking noise that's really noticeable when in gear for about 3 or 4 mins ,sounds like a lifter but I read that kia had an issue with timing chain adjusters , any info would be appricated

vehicle runs great and I changed the oil to synthetic mobile one 5 w 20
my history with this vehicle purchased vehicle jan 2018
purchased this veh at myrtle beach Chrysler jeep which is owned by bobby gail kia and got taken to the cleaners they stated it had a 128 point inspection and was in tip top shape ,,,,1200 miles was getting a brake noise pulled the wheels found the brake pads were down to the metal and all guide pins were frozen up,right rear caliper was damaged , emergency brake shoes were toast and brake mount nails were missing and 2 springs were broken ,,,,I noticed that on the highway it had a slight pull to the right so I took it to the kia dealer to be aligned they came out and said it needed 1500 in front end repair ,,,, camber bolts were frozen up and ball joints were shot and 1 lower control arm needed replaced ,,,,,,,,went home set it on stands and broke all bolts loose with a 1/2 in drive ratchet ,,,,found no bad ball joints I purchased 3 kias from bobby gail in 3 years next one will come from the Toyota dealer but really like driving this vevicle

Sorry you have had such an experience with your ride. Yes they had a TSB about timing chain tensioners in response to your main question. BUT not much more help can be given until you complete your profile info, with year model and engine size. YOU may know what you have ...but we don't. ;)

Greetings,

Unfortunately the "128 point inspection" is really just a selling point, to get the vehicle out of the dealership's door these days.

Excellent that you have the skills/tools/ability to properly diagnose and make repairs on the vehicle.

If the lifter noise started after the 5w20 oil change, you may want to consider using a heavier viscosity oil, to see if it quiets the lifter(s).

From the 2009 (CA) owners manual, the Borrego is rated for / ok to use 5w30 weight oil, in the v6 motors.

* If doing any kind of equipment hauling and/or towing with the vehicle, I would be using 5w30 weight oil in the motor.

If the noise only appears on cold startup / is not constant, another possibility may be an EGR modulating or other emissions control valve, providing cold-start assistance.. I would also be checking that, if here.

Hope the rattle and noise issues turn out to be minor.
