For an oil change, and rotation. Service writer suggested douching the injectors, alignment, and brake fluid swap. Also filters and wipers which I declined along with the brake fluid swap. Letting them do the injectors and alignment so he gave me a loaner which this is mainly about.

Brand new Sorento. I hate this thing already despite being impressed before I got in it. The start/stop feature is FUCKING annoying. You have to turn it off every time you want to drive it. No inside hatch release as far as I can tell. Looked everywhere. Going to Google it any way.

Anyone else had their injectors douched? I have 49,000 and I just put installed the updated plugs this weekend myself. 15 minute job. The 4th coil connector was the only thing that had to fudged as there is a ground strap that goes over it. No need to pay the dealer to do this. Plugs take a 5/8's plug socket.

I put a bottle of Techron total fuel system cleaner in the gas tank every 6 months. There is a cleaning for the direct injection the dealers do that I would consider. The last time I was at the dealer for State inspection the service writer came in with a cabin air filter & engine air filter and showed them to a elderly lady in the waiting room. They could have been changed, but he quoted $80 for the cabin air filter and $65 for the engine air filter. She OK'd it. There is a Autozone 2 minutes down the road that would have changed the engine air filter for $25. They don' changed cabin air filters. Actually, in todays world 50,000 miles seems to be right for a brake fluid change. But it's also easy to do it yourself. Some dealers upsell to the extreme.

Up selling is the dealers life line, that is where they keep the books in the black, and the service writers are basically sales people on commission..

I realize the upselling and all that. I hardly used this vehicle and my business changed (employee issues) so now I am actually using it and I need it on a daily basis so cleaning the injectors seemed like a worthwhile idea. I didn't ask how much each procedure was he just gave me totals. With the brake fluid exchange which I declined it would have been in the mid $500's. With LOF, rotation, alignment and injector service it's around $360. I'm still chasing a short in the cargo light circuit. I am doing that myself but never have time to complete it.

I just checked my cabin filter after 5,500 miles and it's pretty dirty. Ordered one from Amazon for $17.32. My dealer charges about $25 for an air filter that I install.

If you don't use a fuel additive all the time, you might well need the injector service, and its a lot more involved than putting Techron in the tank. They inject a foam through the intake tract and the injectors that cleans the whole engine top. Most of them use the BG service - look it up. They typically use the BG service for the trans when they do a D/F too.

Since these are direct injection engines, I don't think additives do much to the intake track. Use a top tier gasoline helps as well. Top tier gas and an additive every 10k can't hurt.

Have you ever heard of carbon fouling on the intake valve and even out as far as the throttle body? How in the heck does it get there against the intake air flow? It happens because of valve overlap and its how the intake tract gets dirty. Now if you have a cleaning additive in your fuel, it is carried wherever the exhaust gases go, and carbon build-up will be reduced. But the real purpose of using the additive is to keep the fuel system clean, injectors functioning properly and cleaning the whole upper cylinder. Other benefits are clean plugs and cat converters.

Gasoline detergent, upper cylinder cleaners do nothin to eliminate or clean the intake system on a DI engine. Blow-by from the PCV system introduces contaminates into the intake and the heat cooks it onto the runners and intake valves.
Turbo intakes exacerbate the issue as there is additional heat in the intake and possible oil misting from the turbo seals.

A catch can helps some, and a periodic cleaning with crushed walnut is required,, chemical cleaning in the intake has minimal affect..

Between the new plugs I installed and the injector cleaning I notice a difference. It in reality has more to do with the injector cleaning as I really didn't notice much after just the plugs but when I picked it up from the dealer I did notice it. They also said my rear brakes were down to 4mm. I did the front rotors and pads within the last year. I already have new pads and rotors sitting here for the rear. Powerstop slotted and grooved with ceramics have been great on the front so got the same for the rear.

1911 read what Leo said. He is on point. It has been an issue ever since manufactures went to direct injection to improve gas mileage.

It is my understanding that our engines use a pulsed injection system where some fuel is injected when the intake valve is open to spray some fuel on the intake valve to aid in keeping the valve clean.
I added the BG 44K to the gas tank when I bought it at 28,000 miles. Just to be on the safe side, at 30,000 miles I used the BG Platinum Air Intake, Valve & Combustion Chamber Cleaner with the special tool done through the vacuum system for the cost of the cleaner at a friends service station.

You guys can believe what you like - simple as that. We'll see whose car is still running smooth at 100K with no injector service.

Do you happen to know if you got the revised spark plugs?
