Wife said she could not lift the back "door". Tried it my self and apparently both lift supports became inoperative at the same time.??? :( Realized that rear gate is very heavy. Don't know if this is common for both to fail, or is it expected. ??

You may have had one fail and did not notice it. Once they both fail, you will definitely notice it. At all events, the repair is very easy and cost for the parts is cheap.

I've done this on a couple of cars, just prop the hatch up with an appropriate length piece of lumber and swap the cylinders. I recently did it on our 2013 Nissan Rogue, took about ten minutes.

I did the "StrongArm" 6261 version, arrived today and since I was alone, used various "items" to prop the tail gate up to full length. As soon as I put the first one on, the tail gate lifted off of the support all by itself. Yes about 15 minutes. As it turned out, one was completely collapsed, while the other "seemed" full strength. :D
