 The heater is not working properly, only heats up when I start driving but stops heating when I'm in an idiling position. Sometimes it doesn't work at all.
The mechanic can't seem to understand what the cause is. Anyone else out there that has had a heating problem? Thanks

Hi M.

Sorry to read about your problem, but my 2004.5 Spectra EX roasts me out of the car! The whole ventiliation system (cooling and heating) has been a big hit as far as my car goes.

The only thing I can think of is that there must be enough antifreeze/water in the cooling system to make it up into the interior heater core, AND the water pump has to be strong enough (spin fast enough) at idle to push the fluid up into the heater core.

Is the problem perhaps a faulty water pump (or impeller on the pump) that isn't forcing the fluid through the system at low RPM (idle)? Is the belt or gear that drives the water pump slipping at low RPM?

Just a thought...
