Hi , I recently purchased a kia rio on a 03 plate to find it had a battery drain problem, I took the vehicle to my local garage who confirmed the battery and alternator had no problems and were fully functional.

I believe i have found the solution to this problem.

I solved this problem by disconnecting the driver door alarm.

Apparently when you close the door the alarm turns other things on within the car causing battery drain, let me know if this fix works for people experiencing similar issues

WOW! I bought a brand new (not recon) battery in oct 2010, by Feb 2010 the battery was dead after sitting overnight (or long periods). Note: That this only happens when the temps are around 36 and below. It's never happened in the warmer months, and It's continued to be a problem to this day.
I've had a full diagnostic done and battery function checked, but all came back reporting no problems.
Recently, (last 2 weeks) colder weather came and so did the battery dying. I've also read that Kia's from 2000-2005 have had same problems with the memory fuse draining on the battery.
Thanks for reporting your solution, I'm desperately hoping it helps my van.
