He did and the dealership said "bring it back in and we'll check", but he didn't want to loose the car again and it was easier to do the work himself. He only used the main dealer for the service to keep up the full service history with Toyota stamps - as he's soon going to sell the vehicle.

Normally dealers rip customers off by replacing disks and pads when not necessary. Especially disks.
I got caught once by a Vauxhall dealer. Said my 1 year old van needed new disk and pads. I argued that if it needed new pads (1st set) that shouldn't need new disks as well. They wouldn't release the vehicle so the next day they did the work on the agreement that they gave me the old parts. And guess what, when I collected it, they couldn't find the old parts! I was going to take it up with the Citizen's Advice and maybe small claims court, but I was then too busy with work and did nothing - apart from never going back. The dealership has closed down now.

I understand your reason for doing it, but I am wary of other people servicing a car. The may know the basics and will change filters, replace oil, check brakes, etc.

But they won't know what things to pay attention to on this specific model, based on an experienced mechanics experience they will know what particular things to review and possibly adjust/replace.
Well, I thought the same until I took my car for free winter safety check.

Day before the check I notice that one tyre is almost flat.
I found big screw in the edge of the tyre. I inflate the tyre and went for the check the day after. When I arrive they said that someone important from KIA is there and would like to ask me few questions about the car.How happy I am and that sort of stuff.
I totally forgot to mention the screw.

And guess what... KIA dealer on safety check never notice the screw, never notice the pressure difference.
I get the raport that everything is fine
I said that I have massive screw in the tyre and it's pretty dangerous to drive like this and I thought it's a SAFETY CHECK!

Anyway, I ask them about new tyre and I've booked appointment.
They changed the tyre few days later...And guess what...
When I come back I notice that they damaged my alloy.
Good job KIA Carrandgriffiths!

They promise me a new alloy when i spoke with them on the phone.
But when I arrive they said that they will send my alloy to be refurbished and they will fit a different one for now
Week after I get my resprayed alloy.

After all I thought I'm gonna get free service or something for all that inconvenience... but no.... all I get was... 'sorry'

I couldn't be bothered to fight with them so I just decide that they never gonna see me and my money again!

I certainly wouldn't let a main dealer change tyres. Best to go somewhere that only does tyres or better still use a mobile fitter that comes to you. That's what I've used for a number of years now and the service is first class.
One guy from etyres even cleaned my alloys before sticking the weights on - most places just use spit!

Use main dealers for just what you need too to keep the warranty up (yes, I know you can go anywhere for this now). I'd use them for servicing and warranty work only. Tyres, air con recharge, valeting etc etc go to the specialist that does this day in day out. They are better and far cheaper.

No way I would ever gonna return the new alloy to them if I were you. Ever.

First service £155 (Warrington)
Car is from Chester but after that story with the alloy I decide not to go there anymore.

I also asked them ( Kia in Warrington) to check the gearbox as 2nd gear is bit dodgy.Every other time You can feel under your hand that something is not right. Sometimes you can hear 'it' as well.

Kia in Chester don't think there is any issue with my gearbox and I should change the way I'm changing the gears

I thought... 'ok, it's not bmw so maybe that's normal in cheap Kia cars '

Today however I found out that my gearbox IS dodgy.
Warrington lads will strip the gearbox, replace faulty part and rebuild it.

Briliant!! Finally I'm going to enjoy driving my ceed.

Enough is enough, I'm writing a formal complaint to Kia.
Kia Chester is just the disgrace!

I've just realised that I didn't get an annual bodywork inspection when the Soul went in for it's 1st service. I seem to remember this was needed for the bodywork warranty.

Yeah, it's a trick - they like to say it's mandatory, but they don't offer you bodywork inspection when you check in for regular service - it's up to you to ask for it.

After some little sh1t broke a wing mirror, I rang the dealer for a price of a replacement. £16.16 + vat for a manual or £39 + vat for electric (which I need). I thanked him for his time and ordered a stick on mirror from ebay instead, a tenner in case you were wondering.

The deal I got was on a 2 year old car, as bought second hand from Kia.

I am paying £12.45 a month to cover me for 3 years servicing and 2 MOT's.
All parts and labour included.

Hope this helps.

1st (10k) service in March this year

£150 at Westdrive Kia Braintree. They quoted £164 but when i told them that Ken Brown Motors in Harlow quoted me £150 they price matched it. Lookers Kia in Colchester quoted £194 for the same service!!!!!!!!!

Thats a 1/3 more for the same service at dealers around a hours drive apart. It just shows that it pays to shop around.

Now this is what I call ripoff:

around 200 eur for third service (45000 km) @ KIA Serbia HQ located in Zemun:

Fuel filter 3142 RSD
AC filter 2479 RSD
Oil filter 1117 RSD
Air filter 2315
Oil 5.5L (Castrol SLX Professional 5W40) 6004 RSD
Labour 3019 RSD

Plus VAT 18%

Total 21450 RSD

Note: for prices in EUR, divide by 105.

I expected it to be ~160 EUR like first service @ 15000 KM, since it's the same service.
But they charged this much, and I got bluish colored face when they told the price :S

After I left, I phoned the other KIA dealer in Belgrade, and they quoted me ~ 160 EUR.
One thing I'm certain about - I'm not going to Zemun again.. It's too much the difference.
