Welcome to the forum.

The link that you posted shows the jumper you must use on the diagnostic plug.
It also describes how to count the short and long pulses to find the code.
Your link describes it better than I can - Possibly you need to get someone translate to this to Vietnamese for you.

Hi you,

The link that only describle is short blink and long blink but not detail that time of short blink and long blink as well as pause and its loop-circle. for example: short blink pulse is 500 ms, long blink pulse is 1500 ms.... loop circe is forever...
with toyta is OK: Toyota Engines - auto tune up using codes, Example models: Hilux Surf, Sienna

but KIA is Kia Engines - auto tune up using codes, Example models: Optima, Rio not clear.

I want to detail pin out diagram describle as where is GND-pin and +12V Bat-pin?... and code format decribles is more detail

If you found then send link to me please.
Thank you very much

See the attached picture which shows how the jumper must be used - I use a paper clip - connect the jumper then switch on the ignition (not starting th eengine) then you will see the 'Check Engine Light' flash.

Watch this for some time and you'll soon note the long flash verses short flash and similarly the short pause verses long pause, then use the link to decifer the code.

Thanks Ron1004,
Thanks for your help

in fact, I am writing a software on PC to get MIL/OBD-I code for some Asian vehicles. Present, I have not any KIA vehicle here to get sample code format for programming. Therefore, I need detail decrible of code format for software writes.

if you are free, could you be experimental trying in your car and get exact information of short, long, pause time and loop circle of the check engine light?
I will give this software to you when it is completed.

Thanks for yours answer

If you disconnected a sensor with the engine running, and the CEL (MIL) should come one and it will generate a fault code and store this in memmory.
Turn the ignition OFF, then connect the jumper, and then turn ON the ignition without starting the engine, and now the CEL (MIL) light should flash showing the codes stored in the ECU.

It is possible that the Spectra you have is OBDII and possibly in this case the flashing CEL does not work. This I am not sure on, so you need to check.

I do know that the flashing CEL works on OBI.

This is my second post in this forum.. :( I am sorry, and apologise to start this way, but I had a problem with my Kia, and doing a search was how I found you... hope my next post be to help or simply to speak...

I have a 98' KIa Shuma that won´t start... the mil light turned on, and engine stopped.

I got 9 short blinks, then a little pause, 8 long (at least more long) blinks, a little pause again, and then 6 short blinks. After a while, the same again.

Is that code 95? I can´t find it... or maybe I am not calculating the fault code well?

Please, help me

That sounds like a code 9, and code 86, however I don't see code 86 on the list.

Try taking it somewhere to get the codes read.

If thats a 1998 your working on, it should be OBD 2, which means you can connect a cheap OBD 2 scanner and pull the codes without counting flashes.

Cheap $20 code reader at the auto parts store.

No...
The 2002 no longer supports "check engine" flash codes...
You will need to get an OBDII reader/scanner or have your mechanic read the codes for you... You could also buy an OBDII reader on the web and do it yourself...

You can jumper the pins on that diagnostic port and count the flashes of the CEL to get the codes.
