Hey everyone! I have been a Toyota / Lexus owner for 16 years. 1991 Camry, 99 02 04 07 99 Solara, 07 GS 350 AWD, 97 Corolla, 97 Ford Escort, 2003 xTerra, 2012 Azera. After the real estate market crashed I was forced to sell the Lexus, and eat a lot of humble pie. After putting everything in perpective, I decided to give Hyundia/Kia a try. My mom just switched to an 11 Optima after 20 years of Camry's, and she couldn't be happier.

I had a photoshoot near a dealership, and on a whim they just got a SXL in stock... wasn't even PDI'd yet. I never thought they could get me out of my Azera lease, as it was only 7 months in with the tech package(faster depreciation). We talked numbers and wow they worked hard to get the deal. Also there was 1500 lease cash available for the 14's, and because I owned the xTerra, I received another $2000 in rebates. All in all I was very happy with the deal.

As for the driving experience/overal satisfaction... I am VERY impressed. I held off on the 11-13 because of the overall dated feel. I didnt like the old 3.5, manual sunroof shades(for pano) older nav(which the azera also had, and it was AWFUL, one of the main reasons I traded it in), and overall to spend $40,000 on a car you really need to be happy with it. Plus the drive feel(bumps, harshness) was very prominent.

The SXL impresses in just about every way. I keep the steering on sport, the new gen nav is leap years ahead of the old one, and all the extra features over a loaded santa fe just add up.

Blind spot monitoring
LED tube brake lights
Xenon HID headlights
Nappa Leather
Red LED mood lighting
3.3 V6(only on Santa Fe LWB)
Power folding mirrors and liftgate
Heated and cooled seats
Third row option.

It feels like Hyundia really "deconted" the Santa Fe for the US market. Just about every other market, many of those features are available. I have a feeling this was done for costs, and the eventual plan to offer a premium SUV in the market for Hyundai(and maybe Kia down the road). I don't mind paying for the options if they are reasonable, but they should really let the packages be available to purchase.

Here are the pics.

Definitely agree about the analysis of the Sorento versus the new Santa Fe. Same reasoning I had for going with a Sorento SX (Canadian equivalent to the SXL in the states).

I wouldn't mind seeing some close ups of your seats. The Canadian Kia site doesn't advertise the Nappa leather, so I wonder if it is used or not. Wouldn't mind doing some comparing when I pick mine up next week.

Wow I had no idea they had the little lights behind the door handle. Wish they would of put white LED's in there instead of yellow halogens

You can get the in many colours. I just ordered white LED in for my 2013 EX (aftermarket), I saw the pics of the 2014 and said "sweet"

@Moodib I'll get some close ups of the seat for you this weekend. It's very easy to tell the difference. Standard leather is not as soft/smooth and the Nappa leather is butter smooth.

@socaboy(great screen name) they do actually glow a nice shade of white with a tint of blue. Because I shot that photo at night the white balance was off a bit, and the handle light looks more yellow, then the actual white glow.

I'm looking to get a trailer hitch soon. I crawled under there, and I really can't figure out where they are going to mount it.

Nice buy, the lights on the door handles is a nice touch. When I saw your pics last night I called up my buddy and put in a order to get them done on my 13. Sweet ride ;)

weezer, how's sitting in the 3rd row? Enough room for adults for short trips? With the small windows, does it feel claustrophobic?

very very nice! :D congratulations!

wonder if 2014+ should be considered new gen and deserves new subforum. Its got pretty much same sheet metal but whole new platform shared with new santa fe sport underneath.

now i am nitpicking but these are some of my let downs:

doors. they should have updated so the lower cladding is actually on the door like the santa fe so keeps your pants clean.

steering wheel. lets face it, it looks ugly and needed an update but decided to slap on same one from 11-13.

lastly, it would be awesome if they offered some kind of appearance package on EX V6 (for sake of exclusivity) so the lower trim is body coloured like the SX, maybe LED tail lamps because in Canada price difference between EX V6 to SX is $6400!

I agree 100% that they should create a new sub-forum for the '14 Sorento.

The steering wheel has infact been updated for 2014. Look at some pics and compare it to the odler one. The differences are there!

I'm waiting a few years when the SX's depreciate to get one!

@ Kipa Third Row is usbale for adults, but it is tight. I'm 5 foot 6 and my head almost hits the ceiling in the third row. Second row and front seats have a ton of room. The reclining and sliding second row seats really feel spacious and comfortable. My neice and nephew, ages 6 and 7 had room for days in the third row yesterday. I'm almost 270, 5 foot 6... and you can fit two of me in the third row, but it def is tight. I find that I am very happy that I opted for the third row.

@ Moodib Sorry I didnt have time to take the close up leather pics yet... I've been slammed with work. I promise that I'll take them soon. :)

So far no complaints at all... everyone I take for a ride in it absolutely loves it, and is impressed by how it drives.

I like the fact that Kia is starting to offer HIDs in TOTL models.
They should've done it with the '13 SX T_T

No worries. I'm pretty busy at work too and to make matters worse, my Sorento is delayed in transit somewhere.

I like the new tails on the SX while I absolutely hate them on my '12...the change made them much more attractive.. I should have waited to buy..

Don't worry you won't miss that Lexus one bit.
It's funny different circumstances forced me look look at KIA, boy am I glad I did.
I don't know, the old mainstream brands just don't do it for me anymore.

Kia's the real deal, other brands almost look like they trying to keep up!
My Sorento twists necks everyday, while Porsche, Merc and others just get a yawn...
