Pulled my interior fuse box panel off today to pull the interior fuse while I swapped out the rest of my interior lights with LED. To my surprise, inside the fuse box is this wiring using vampire clips - never have I seen a factory do this type of jackleg wiring. I bought the car new, it has no dealer added features like an alarm. It's an LX model w/Homelink being the only added electronic item. The jumper connects a red wire on one side of the box to much smaller green/black wire on the other side (you can see it in the picture if you look hard).

So, is this a factory hack, dealer added something I'm not aware of or a complete mystery. If anyone with a 2018 LX V6 could quickly pull the cover off the fuse panel and look, I'd appreciate it.

I can "see" two parasitic clips in the picture...
Why don't you follow where the added wires go If this is an added on item the wires should be fairly easy to trace where the are going... If they go into a large bundle of tape wrapped wires (wiring harness) then it might be a factory "fix"...

Thanks to 17LX I called a dealer locally who has one technician who is a genius and is considered the go to guy for problems. He confirmed it's the Homelink but also that if Homelink is not standard on a particular trim level/model, it is always port installed and they insist on using vampire clamps instead of creating a new circuit and properly wiring and fusing it. He also mentioned that 99% of the problems they encounter with Homelink is related to these connections, something to keep it mind for down the road.

You were correct questioning a wiring add-on that did not look like the factory did it. I bought my Sorento new and it died 600 miles from home a few weeks later. The dealer had an aftermarket company install anti-theft alarms on all of the vehicles and pulled off the module when I purchased the car. The only problem is that they never told me about the modification. The entire job was done terribly using butt connectors that were too large for the wire gauge and wires that were just twisted together at taped up. They then just shoved the entire mess up under the dash. It literally fell onto my feet and several connections fell apart. I fixed it on the road and drove to the nearest KIA dealer and was told it was the worst dealer wiring job they had ever seen. They checked my repair and determined it was safe for my drive home. The selling dealer offered to have the spliced/cut wires soldered back together, but I refused and demanded an entire new dash wiring harness so that the car was truly OEM. KIA Corporate got involved and I had a new harness installed by another KIA dealer. The cost to the selling dealer was very close to $3000 for parts and labor. Just goes to show that a new car can easily be butchered by a dealer.

Based on the bad reviews that this particular dealer has received and fear of retaliation, all I'm able to say is that is is one of the KIA dealers in the San Gabriel Valley area of Southern California
