I would like to install an after market stereo. Please advise how to remove factory unit and will a regular din stereo fit without a dash installation kit. Also is a wiring harness availlable so that I do not have to tap into the factory wiring.

Do you have full 'double' din units in Canada?
If so, you will need a Single Din adaptor kit, there is a kia to iso adaptor available.

I just installed a new Kenwood deck, and It was a flawless very clean istalation. I needed no adapter kit, and everything is still just like the factory, so if I needed to I could put the original deck in there in under 15 minutes no problem. All I needed was a wiring harness a screw driver and a drill.

The factory stereo is mounted on two metal brackets, one on each side. These brackets also hold the tray below the factory deck. the only modification I had to make was to drill slightly bigger holes in the two brackets to accomodate the mounting screws that came with the deck. So the new deck sits right where the old one did, mounted to the same metal brackets. Perfect :D

My Rio didn't come with a stereo so I had to get a dash kit. Also, a hyundai accent 4 door 2000+ wireing kit should work just fine to install the stereo. Don't get the Kia Rio wireing kit as it is for the first gens and is different.

how to remove stereo in 04 rio

(PLEASE NOTE: UNLESS YOU ARE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS TYPE OF WORK OR ARE USING CORRECT TOOLS, THIS SHOULD BE USED AS A GUIDE FOR HOW TO TAKE DASH OUT ONLY, I AM NOT AN EXPERT NOR QUALIFIED IN STEREO INSTALLATION, THE INSTALLATION OF A STEREO SHOULD BE DONE USING A WIRING HARNESS OR TAKEN TO A QUALIFIED INSTALLER UNLESS YOU WANT TO RISK DEATH - DON'T KID YOURSELF, A CAR BATTERY/POWER CORD FROM A BATTERY WILL KILL YOU INSTANTLY SO DON'T RISK IT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING)

Hi i know this is years old, but i have on 04 rio, and i couldn't work the dash out at first and suprisingly i found nothing on google!! the stereo was the factory cd player, it stopped working so i tried to take it out, what you need to do is remove the ash tray, get down level with it so you can see the sides, theres 2 little lumps on the side of the ash tray holder, push them in and give the black trim which surrounds the stereo etc a little pull from inside the ash tray(ie hold the buttons in and with the remaining fingers/hands pull it from the inside of the ash tray) you will notice it moves.

Very carefully, working from the bottom up pull at it along the outside and it starts to come out...you will notice clips along the side pop out(there are no screws holding this but its very tight particularly at the top), be careful as you will snap it if you just try and yank it)

Once you get the sides out the top is hardest bit as theres about 5 clips, if nessicary ensuring you dont sratch thr dash, piop a flat screw driver in about an inch from the top corners and level it slightly on either side.

Once the 2 sides are out, you can wiggle it whilst pulling back and the middle should pop out.

you will need to remove power cords connected to any instruments in the black trim(like the light in ash tray, the cigarette, hazard lights etc) and remember to tie them using string or something so they dont fall into the dash or your in trouble.

At this point it should be free to remove the black trim leaving you with the exposed stereo mount screws and probably the tray underneath

(BIG IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE YOU GO YANKING) the tray and the stereo are normally on the same plate, there are 2 screws beside the stereo and 2 beside the tray, remove all 4 and the whole things should come out.

Once your at this point, you can see the plugs on the back of the stereo, there will normally be another set of fuses back there(in mine there was a fuse box and a round black fuse tube) if its not working check these before replacing the unit(REMOVE BATTERY POWER BEFORE DOING THIS OR YOU WILL ELECTROCUTE YOURSELF AND COULD VERY WELL DIE), also plug it back in as sometimes they just need to be unplugged and replugged.

IF ALL OF THIS IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND, MESSAGE AND ILL MAKE A YOUTUBE VIDEO TO SHOW YOU

This is where my advice ends, unless you are qualified or experienced in stereo installation, or are acting on advice of a qualified person, i suggest you have a qualified person install the unit.(and if silly enough to install yourself without a wiring harness, disconnect the battery or you might just blow your whole car, and/or yourself up)

if you dont want to go through the firewall, see it theres any space where something already comes around or (and this is completely dodgy so i understand if you dont follow it, you can usually find a gap around the front 1/4 panels and stick the wire through there somehow, then come up through floor and run down the side of car under the kick panels.
