I asked this question about 5 days ago and no one answered. If anyone has thoughts on this I'd love to hear from them. I love my Amanti, just don't quite understand the weight.

Thanks!

OLD QUESTION:

I read a couple of reviews that mentioned the weight of the Amanti being about 4000lbs.

I checked the weight of several other cars about the same size as the Amanti or bigger and all were lighter.

Does anyone know why?

Did they intentionally make it heaver for some reason?

Was it a matter of cost savings or something?

Part of the weight gain is a thicker gauge body steel. While other cars are cutting weight through thinner body panels, the Amanti will NOT buckle as you lean against the fender while talking to friends. Try that on an Avalon or Camry (I did... it wasn't pretty)

Plastic body panels is a better solution to weight reduction compared to thinner metal, but has disadvantages as well. Kia has chosen to maintain the body integrity at the expense of weight (and unfortunately, gas mileage). If I had my choice, I'd take the extra 300lbs over a tin foil counterpart any day.
