Here's my intermittent problem:

When you put the key it it stays stuck on 'lock' unless you jiggle it very violently. Sometimes it takes a few minutes of this until it will turn and start the car. I have tried spraying lubricant in the barrel. I suspect that the barrel is worn as the spare key does the same thing. It's getting worse week by week.

My Questions:
1. Has anyone replaced an ignition barrel in this model before?
2. As the immobiliser and key are separate does that mean the key is purely that, a key. And not involved in immobilising the vehicle?
3. Has anyone else had this problem before and how did they sort it?

I have been quoted from our friendly neighbourhood Kia dealer:
APPROX.
2.5 hrs Labour AU$372.00
Ignition Barrel AU$333.00
...there maybe more parts, or replacement keys added. They are unclear.

How's that labour charge, eh? Reckon they must have doctors working out back for that hourly rate!

I am not the richest West Aussie on the block that's for sure so any help would be much appreciated.

First try to find a sweet spot for the key , move it slightly in and out or1-2 mm only while trying to turn it at the same time , not needed more movement and not needed any force, if it works it will work with minimal force...... If your key is worn out that may help. But if not then contact to Parkland Locksmith, they are experts.
