the waterpump went out on my wives 05 sportage 2.7 before i took apart the cams were a tooth or two off. I lined it back up with new pump and belt kit . when i started the engine it knocked loud so i shut it off . now no compression and one cam has strong spring action without plugs in .WHAT NOW:confused:

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you cranked it with the valve timing that far off that the pistons have hit the valves - you'll need to take the head off, and if you're lucky you could get away with a head rebuild, but if there's impact indentations in the piston crowns, then best the block be rebuilt as well.

Depending on the mileage, it may be best to get a factory re-manufactured engine.

Interference motor, cannot start it if off a tooth or 2, BANG...
Sucks but should have known this if you were getting into a T-belt change.

Used motor from junk yard or ebay shouldn't be too costly, somewhere in the 500-800 range I would think.
