I received my Class Action Lawsuit last week. I have no reason to file on it, I have 57,000 miles on my 2017 SX and it has always run great. I did have the recall KSDS knock sensor update done which as you all know gives us lifetime warranty on our engines.
This may not be the right thread to ask in, but I'd really like to know what percentage of us have had engine failures. We are only a small group here at "kia-forums" compared to the many KIA 2.0t owners out there, but even as a smaller group I would think that the percentage of our problem motors is about the same as all other KIA 2.0t owners.

Does the lifetime warranty transfer if we sell to a 3rd party down the road? I don't see us keeping this 2020 Sportage SX after the 3 year loan is paid. The lifetime warranty would make for a good bargaining chip.

I don't think anyone takes into account the down time with Warranties. 10 years sounds great, but what fun is owning a car that is in the shop half its life regardless if it's under warranty or not? Sure it's not money out of your pocket for repair but in our case every time it broke down it was a 1-2hr wait for the tow truck on the side of a busy highway, one time they towed it an hour in the opposite direction due to Kia's "towing" policies, then we had beater loaner cars for months. You don't find 10 year warranties on brands like Honda and Toyota's for a reason. Get what you pay for, we should have paid more for something else.

My thoughts exactly. Kia seems like a good deal until you really compare it to say one of my beamers. Everything about the Kia feels outdated, years late to the game, watered down, cheap versions. Then how bad of a deal Kia is really hits you in the face if you are one of the unlucky people that has to deal with Kia service department.

The wife likes her Sportage, but she isn't a car person and sees it just as a cheap means from a to b.

This depends on your experience, which can vary from person to person.
Bashing Kia for a breakdown experience, while praising BMW in the same sentence is laughable at best, based on factual data if you look around at reliability studies.

What I can share, my experience with Hyundai / Kia was a single breakdown event where it didn't even require a tow, the car made it back to the dealer but had a failed transmission. The dealer provided a nearly new loaner and I had my repaired vehicle back within a few days and never had any problem with it again. My experience with Hyundai / Kia vehicles has been excellent with very few problems arising when properly maintained. I would assume this is most people's experience presently with the brands.
And, to further expound on this, Toyota is vaunted for having the best reliability for decades, and yet somehow I had my worst ever warranty experience with them, bar none.

Now all of this accounted for, Kia today is NOT what Kia was 15 or 20 years ago. Things have improved drastically with the brand concerning quality and reliability. Do they still have some problems? Yes, but so do most carmakers today.

My only complaints with my Sportage is...
1: Cooled seats. They seem to not get very cool unless the windows are closed and the ac is running.
2. The sound system is on the weak side.

My only complaint with KIA, so far, is the dealership I go to is slow. Everyone but the sales department move at a snails past. Having a scheduled oil change with an empty bay shouldn't take 30 minutes for them to pull my car in. Last 3 visits this has happened. Every time I had an appointment and they were not busy, backed up or anything.

I received (2) of the same from Kia yesterday (Monday the 24th).

Since I have no claim to make, I filed one in the circular file and the other in my Kia folder.
One important statement made in the document was a 'lifetime short block warranty', as long as you had the special listening software installed, which we have.

So, that is that.....Kia is doing the best they can, and the right (correct) thing!

The negative aspect of this that I focused attention on, despite the improvements (or because of) when attention was first drawn to the main bearing failures, they really were reluctant to admit anything. That being said, we have seen many car companies take that position, especially the larger, more well known for quality.

Case in point with Toyota and the sludge problems they had in the early 2000s. shortly after their push to "decontent" their cars.

The fix regarding the A/C was done during the 2018 production run, so it is possible it doesn't apply to that particular vehicle. If the A/C is working fine and not having issues with working intermittently then it shouldn't be a problem. You will know if your car has the issue, it is quite obvious.

Hate to sound like a snob but even my previous CX-9's seemed so much better built. The dealer has fixed all my minor issues but I never had these issues with 3 previous Mazda's. We bought a Lexus after the Kia and well lets not even go there. I just realize how cheaply made the Kia is.

Do you have it's ref number so I can address this? Of course kia dealership is acting clueless.

Mine is a 2018 but the build date is mid 2017. They tested and found it failed the cooling test and applied the fix. FWIW, I had to print out the bulletin and bring it in to the dealer for them to know much about it.

How does this address my issue with the seats not getting cold when the ac is off?

if you are expecting the seat cooling feature to work with the a/c turned off, you need to correct your perception of what the seat cooling feature is. Seat cooling is just a redirect of the factory air through a fan into the seat itself. That's all it is. a small fan directly blowing conditioned air through the seat fabric. If the air conditioning is off, it doesn't and can't work as you seem to be expecting.
