I have an August 2001 Carnival LS and the owners manual says that there are two possible automatic transmissions for my vehicle. Is there any way to easily tell the 50-40LE and the F4A52-1 transmissions apart. The problem is that according to the manual they require different transmission fluids with one requiring 8.5 litres and the other 7.6 litres.

As far as I know only way is to crawl under the car and look at the gear box - the number is engraved there!
I thank that all CBU year 2001 Carnivals come with the Mitsubishi F4A52 transmission (like mine) but I could only drain about 4 liters of ATF out of the transmission and therefore only put 4 liters in.
Make sure you use Diamond SP-III ATF and NOT Dexron if you have the F4A52 Mitsu trans.
Does anyone have any experience with the amount of ATF to change?
What is the price of Diamond SP-III (I paid tripple the price of Dexron III)?
