 Hi

I have posted this question before on the forum & received a few replies to it the latter part of last year.

The problem involves a really awfull smell, arriving on any given time scale
( havent had the smell as bad as I have now for a few months ! ) and without notice. Other times there is no smell what so ever, just as you would expect.

Although I previously said it smelt like 'Rotten Eggs' I have re thought the smell & would say it smells more like 'Cat's Wee' than anything else.

It almost deffinately comes from the fresh air / air con side of things, however, where my problem differs form the other person in the USA, my smell is there when the air con is OFF. As soon as the air con is switched on it goes. The smell can last from one drive then it goes away for a few weeks upto lasting 2 weeks & every drive during thoughs 2 weeks !

The reason for me posting this is to ask if anyone else has come accross a similar problem / and has possibly solved the problem !!!

I can assure any helpful answers of 'It's the catylitic convertor' that it most certainly isn't this !!!

Look forward to this most annoying problem being solved ............

Cheers Mark

don't know much about the sorento's but I had a similar problem in my older car. Do you park outside? On my previous car, I had found out that a cat literally peed on the hood and seeped/spilled onto the cabin air filter. So every time i turned the fan/aircon on, it would smell like cat pee. I changed the filter and the smell went away. On my sportage, there is NO cabin air filter so if i get that smell that means it's in the ductwork which i pray not to have happen.

There are various types, one has a long tube, so you treat the evap direct, or some use a self release can, stick AC on, with ricirc, pull tab, put it in car, and let it do it's stuff for 15 mins.
Try to find some stuff by Forte, may be harder to obtain as Forte mainly sell to trade, try ebay.
If your stuck, your only 20 mins away in Luton drop me a line.

Cheers Murhwiz ..... I did have the A/C treated with antibac on the last service. Thinking about it the smell has been missing for a few months so perhaps it is this that is the problem. I had it done via warrenty last time .... do you think it can be done via warrenty again ?
Thanks

Today the dealer fixed the problem of that bad smell some of us get when the AC is turned on.They replaced the Evaporator & Blower :D

The mechanic said the problem was that water was not draining from the system properly and settling out on some sort of pan(?)

I also got that smell without the AC being turned on occasionally. The problem was covered under the warranty

They changed the Evaporator & Blower!
