Photobucket is now migrating into subscription model....For those (like me) using this platform to share our projects, think of another platform to migrate to......

Photos will be safe and can be downloaded to our PCs anytime (for now), but wont be displayed on 3rd party websites (i.e This forum) unless one buys the hosting plan.

I got hit by the same problem, as that was the only reason I used it. I'm not paying $40 (US) a month so I can use the feature, will have to find something else, any suggestions or can I do it another way?

i personally use dropbox for my photos. I copy a public link to the image and paste it as the path to the image and it works for me.

Like this image of my old truck (a 79 K5 blazer with an 81 cab and a home made box.... sadly it died in 2002. crank bearings started to go)

HMM... on second thought. it's not working today. could be my internet though. my work's internet goes strange sometimes.

OK, i have it working now

so, what you have to do is get a share link on dropbox, copy the link into notepad or something like that

change the www.dropbox.com in the link to dl.dropboxusercontent.com and remove the ?dl=0 from the back and it will link.

i now have to go into all my old posts on a few forums and update dropbox links

I was wondering why I couldn't see some images people have been posting. I thought the problem was on my end. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads up.

The worst part is that people have been using Photobucket in forums for years, and now all those images will be inaccessible. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've often found solutions to problems in old forum posts as far back as the 90s. Sometimes the linked images are dead for whatever reason, but Photobucket images were usually still there. Now those will all be gone.

I guess I may as well delete my Photobucket account too, since that's the only thing I used it for.

We use photobucket for our business. Out of the blue our photos were taken off our 3rd party site. No warning whatsoever. Now if I pay $400 a year they will put them back up. I don't think so! That's extortion. We will not be using photobucket ever again.

NP. Yep, it sucks.....imagine having to go forum by forum, changing all the links from Photobucket to whatever new tool we decide to use...I'm thinking of using Google for now on, it's the most reliable I guess...

Better off download all your pics, if not backed up.... before they genuinely take another drastic decision for the "Sustainability" of the business.

yeah, i'm thinking about moving the images to my google drive to do the same. it seems to be better then dropbox at the moment as you don't have to change the link or anything. i went back to some old posts of mine and saw that it was properly formatted, but i would have to generate a new link. I'm just wondering if i go and edit a post if it counts as a post or not. If so, that might bring up some old posts for no reason other then the edits.

not sure how long my old truck's photo will stay on

It wont count as a post....It will only show a comment at the bottom...Edited on bla bla bla...

And it wont come up as an updated thread either.

Yea this is pretty bad for some people. Ive personally been using it for close to 10 years.

I have A LOT of threads across many boards with uploaded photos. A lot of DIY stuff too with instructions.

I spent a good part of today downloaded individual albums I had saved on PB (because they dont have an easy way to just download everything you have on there).

I started my account with them May 2005.... TWELVE years ago.. jeez.

Totally. I doubt most people are going to bother to go to all that trouble either, I mean even in my case I'm not sure I feel like taking the time to try and log into some old forum for a car that's been gone for years, just to find and edit my old posts with new picture links. Not to mention taking the time to get all those pictures moved to another service. Not gonna happen.

I mostly did stereo install guides anyway, which most people don't even bother with in this day and age. I doubt my pictures will be missed, but it's the principle behind it of course.

Totally random anecdote, but while thinking about this, I remember getting an email one time about exceeding my bandwidth for that month. I was really confused, because the forums I was on at the time were pretty small and had only a few dozen regulars, plus maybe a hundred unique visitors a month, hardly anything that would use that much.

At first I thought my account had been hacked, but a quick look into where the traffic was coming from and a visit to that web page revealed what had happened. A couple days before the email, I had posted an animated .gif file to one of the small forums I was on. One of the forum users must have liked it, because he copied and pasted my link to a massive automotive forum, one of the ones with thousands or even tens of thousands of active users, and who knows how many unique visitors.

My bandwidth was used up in about 6 hours. lol

Announcement - Photobucket images no longer working

Hello,

Photobucket.com has recently changed its terms of service for free users on their platform. As of June 20 images hosted by Photobucket and shared on our forum, or any other third party sites, will no longer appear. As a result, you may notice a higher amount of broken images on the forum.

If you do not have access to edit your older posts please contact an Administrator or Moderator for assistance. Please provide the new URL for the image that needs to be edited and a link to the thread the image in located in.

More information on the change and what it means for Photobucket users can be found below.
