Head Unit thinks its night time on occasion

The UVO head unit thinks its night sometimes. I bright daylight, I'll notice it when I start the car and use Android Auto Google Maps and the background is black. Can drive for a 1 hr drive, turn off and turn back one and its still "dark," but leave car sit and a couple hours its back to normal operation. Just yesterday, it did the same thing to me, did not drive it until 4pm in bright sunny day. Went to a location, then thunderclouds rolled in an hour later. It was darker than when I left, and maps came back as normal daytime viewing. Time is set right, Google on phone is right and the Auto-Headlights work properly. This does not happen at night where it displays as daylight viewing.
Any ideas?

I have read recently that there have been several problems with Android Auto that will be fixed in the next version. This may not have anything to do with your UVO head unit.

My last 4 cars since 2008 have had automatic headlights and they all come on in the daytime at times. It is more obvious in the autumn because of the way the sun shines. It has been the same with GM, Kia and Honda,

Just be careful that there is nothing on the dash to cover the light sensor fooling it to think it's dark.

Did you update to the latest map version release a couple months ago? I noticed this issue after updating and never had it happen before that. If you go into the display settings and turn off the auto day/night setting and turn it back on it will work right for a while after that.

Since the update, I've had the opposite problem. Doesn't shift to night mode when it's dark, even with auto setting.
I don't find the screen distracting, fortunately.
