Something strange that has been happening lately with my 06 Rio. Whenever I put gas in whether I fill it up or not, it hard to start and when it finally does it spits and sputters for a few minutes. Any idea what is going on?

I can vouch for this diagnosis and solution. I had the same exact problem on my 2010 Rio LX, and replacing the purge valve solved the problem AND increased gas mileage by several mpg. It's a <$20 part that takes 10-20 minute to replace using basic tools.

The hard part is getting the old valve out due to its hard to reach location and removing tight hoses. Hose pliers help a lot but are not essential.

Good luck.
