Hi all! so my 2002 needs some love! its white with gold bumpers and cladding, the white paint is fine and shines great, but lower gold clear coat has pealed and faded bad, this spring I will respray the gold parts all white, I have new spray guns and just fixed my 20gl 3.5hp compressor, my plan is to wet sand lightly all the plastic's, spray a primer sealer suitable for plastic, then spray white and clear coat, my neighbors are going to be pissed.
Has anyone done this to their ride ? what did you use and hows it holding up?
Here's my faithful Kia! pic from 5 years ago, its been a pretty good van for 5 years, no major issues, 95K miles.
Thanx JL

Hi,
It's not that bad to do this. I ordered from automotivetouchup.com. I only did the front bumper so ordered two spray cans and one can of clear coat. However, you will need more due to the surface area. You will have to spray prime before the color.

They look good and the color matched up good. Don't skimp on the clear coat after. I should have ordered two cans. It's slightly dull but it's okay since the car is rarely used and is old, so. We had to replace the bumper cause bumper had some cracks due to hitting a pole. Highly recommend doing it at home. Car is old, just make it simple. Don't spend money by handing it to a repair shop.

Thanks, I did redo the front bumper with OEM gold color , sanded, primed, base coat and clear, but came out horrible lol, something about spraying metallic with spray cans, you need a compressor and gun and good spray pattern, light refracting on metallic small and random spray pattern using rattle cans is nasty.
This is why color change to white, should be easier than metallic gold!

So have another plan to paint the body panels and bumpers, they all are removable, I've ordered 13 clip removal tools that will make the job easier, this way I can sand them properly without straining my back and spray them in my back yard on saw horses ,under a easy up , I'm going to call the parts guy for KIA here and see if he can furnish me the exploded doors diagram, that will show me where all the clips are are, I may have to remove interior door panels to remove some fasteners that hold exterior panels on, hope not.

Update, just got off the phone with the KIA parts guy and his exploded diagram just shows location of one panel clip, not the rest, Honda's have a more detailed diagram for their cars and shows all location's but KIA no.
So will take it slow and easy, found this image of a 2002 Sedona exterior door panel, that should help.

Update: so my van just has whole panels not the thinner trim piece from above, got my removal tools and took one panel off, not hard with right tools, of course expect broken clips, they are available on the net cheap.

Removed passenger side molding, not to hard, there are 3 nuts you have to remove at inside of door frame, panel doesn’t need to be removed.
Some parts that attach to clips broke, will reattach with JB Weld.

Today removed passenger side rocker covers 45 minutes of work, pretty easy but lots of broken clips, so much plastic on these vans! Some models only had one thin molding, way easier, being retired this project is keeping me busy, taking my time? it’s going to look so much better all white and modern, I did put white electrical tape over some clip holes so water can't go into interior, will be respraying rims also.

I'm planning on painting in springtime when it warms up a little, early in the morning ,no wind, before the bugs wake up!
Here's my old compressor that I fixed up, and a few spray guns I got at 90% off at Lowe's, tested everything using colored water to see if spray pattern is acceptable, they work pretty good!

Update, its hard for me to complete this project , life seems to get in the way lol, but... I have all the side panels off and repaired all the broken attachment points for the trim clips, I used JB Weld original formula , works great and super strong, takes a few days for it to set up depending on temperature, for the best holding power I used sandpaper to roughen up mating surfaces, if you don't it may not hold.
At the top of each panel there's a thin strip of super strong adhesive tape, I used a blow dryer on panel to soften it up and gently used the removal tool, impossible to get that adhesive off the panel! I used a cheap heat gun and it came right off clean, the rockers only have a small strip at each end, each panel has up to 13 clips.
Now Have a great 3M double filter mask from Amazon $19
ordered some 3M 320 and 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper 25 sheets.
Found the Trim clips from China and will order those after bumpers are off, 50 for $10
Made 4 sawhorses from scrap lumber to lay bumpers on for paint.
Look at that nasty gold!

Looks like a modern van now!
