Pushing 90k miles and going through all the 'tune up' items someone might expect when I struck out on the fuel filter. Owners manual says 'inspect' but never replace. Filter is apparently inside the tank and somewhat difficult to change. No problems but most cars have replacement intervals of 30 or 60k miles for some good reasons.

Should I forget it until a problem surfaces?

well, I also think about replacing it soon. mine is 2013 sportage TGDI (SX in US). it is about 87,000km. I just checked a filter two weeks ago. it was relatively fine. I have new filter in my desk as well. I think that I will replace it soon. it will be closed 90,000km, I will do it. but actually, after changing it, you won't feel different at all. but it is better than old one stuck in.
