We have been having some strange front end shake while accelerating from a stop at low speeds in our 2011 Sorento. We took it in to the dealership about this issue a few months ago and the Service Manager said it just needed a compute update...that’s what he says about everything. Well it didn't fix it. Is there a recall or something about this? I know there was a transmission recall and that was taken care of. The car has about 50,000 miles on it.

Does the shake feel like something is loose, very loose, and shaking? Or does it feel like something is bound up and bucking? Is the shake on straight take offs, or take offs when turning, or easy take offs, or brisk take offs, or all the time?

The computer does control the lock up of the all wheel drive. That can cause bucking when turning on firm surfaces--you don't want it in 4WD/AWD then. Because the update made no difference, try to better describe the problem to the service writer. I know...these days too many just want to scan for codes and update the software or replace parts instead of figuring anything out.

When you take it back, can you reproduce the shaking with the service writer along for a test ride? And demand that they write the symptom, the shake while accelerating, on the repair order. Don't let the service writer just guess at a fix and write nothing but his guess on the repair order.

What was the warranty in 2011? What was still covered under the warranty the first time you took the car in for the shake? Refer back to that date and mileage if the period of the warranty is in question.
