Hi, I have a 2002 Spectra. There is a front end noise that sounds exactly like an aggressive set of snow tires while driving. Noise increases with speed. No strange noise when stopped. Putting it in neutral while driving has no change on the noise. There is no shaking in the steering wheel. Same noise when cranking the steering wheel (the noise doesn't go away). I did try other tires, but no change. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
I was told that a timing belt going bad makes a sound like a tire rubbing and that it could be the issue. How many miles on your car and when was the timing belt last done?
Thanks for the reply. It has 100,000 miles and the timing belt has not been replaced. The noise is very consistent, it doesn't vary except that it gets louder with speed. The noise does not increase if you rev the motor - either stopped or if I am driving, put it in neutral and step on the gas.
Well glad I could help a little, I've yet to diagnose my noise but I'm replacing my timing belt, accessory belts and checking my AC compressor as I think that one of them are my issue.
Wish I could help more, good luck getting it sorted out!
