Chain vice grips save so much time and effort.

Wrap it around the crank pulley, and in the case of a small car - put the handles top or bottom of the drive shaft. Locks the engine in place for the bolt removal, makes it so easy. It doesn't have to be overly tight, or you risk breaking the fins.

Or just buy an electric impact tool (not battery), it's like $100 on Harbor Freight and, with 1050 lb.ft, takes care of any removal of bolts. Makes removing tires so much easier, especially when over-torqued by tire service departments low paid, lazy, employees that use an air impact gun on the wheels' bolts/nuts.

Do not use to put back the bolts, you never need that much torque, use a torque wrench.
