I was cleaning my Sedona and noticed that the front of the footwell seems unfinished. The steering shaft is exposed. I’ve never owned a vehicle with it exposed like that.
is this normal practice for Kia?

Hmm, I haven't even looked lately. I know many of my past cars have the steering column open like that. I just figured all cars did.

Just looked in my son’s 11 Soul and the steering column is exposed too.
Fords is covered but may that’s not common.

NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) is all I care about. If Kia does what needs to be done to minimize that, I don't much care if the steering column is exposed or not. It's not something I'll see unless I bend all the way down under the dash.

IMO, it's the same with engine covers. It used to be all the mfrs just leave the engines exposed, with all the mechanical glory showing. Then some of the German luxury brands started putting covers in their engine bay, and now just about every mfr put covers on their engines, whether it serves a purpose or not.
