I have a 2001 Sportage in which the factory alarm will activate without cause. This happens at all hours of the day and the alarm will silence after depressing the "unlock" button on the remote. I have two questions:

1. Has anyone had this issue before and
2. How do I disable the factory alarm?

Thanks in advance for any comments!

Hello,

I too have this problem. I have been looking online for the past 2 weeks for a solution on how to disable the factory alarm, but have yet to find one. For now I have the horn & door lock fuses pulled out which really sucks.

If anyone knows how to disable the factory alarm please post.

Thank You,
Paul

I believe if you go outside the vehicle, arm it with the remote... then put the key in and turn it so it locks without making the horn beep, it's disabled. I disabled mine on my 2000 once.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply, Unfortunatly I do not have the remote alarm. I had installed a compustar pager alarm system in conjunction with the factory alarm instead (just to have the upgraded alarm system do to my stereo equipment).

Now what I really want to be able to do is either disable the kia factory alarm altogether so my sportage is just using the Compustar alarm or rewire it altogether. Yesterday I found the factory alarm module & took it out to stop the initial problem of the horn going off when ever it wanted to. But now my power locks & compustar alarm do not work as they were all intertwined. I am wondering if any one can provide the wiring schematics of the powerlocks going to the kia factory alarm so I can just rewire it & have my powerlocks working again.

Thank you,
Paul
