I just bought a 2022 Kia Forte Gt Limited. When the car is locked and I approach the rear of the car with the key fob in my pocket or purse and press the trunk release button on the outside of the trunk, nothing happens (I am not talking about the Smart Trunk option). When I raised this with the service dept. of the dealership, they advised that the car needs to be unlocked in order for that exterior button to work. Is this accurate? That makes no sense at all to me. What would the point be of having that button if I have to either walk to the driver's door to unlock the car (even if I don't need to get in the car at all) or pull the key fob out to press the trunk release button on it? That button really serves no purpose if this is correct. My 2012 Toyota trunk opens when the doors are locked and I push that exterior button as long as I have the key fob in range. So, I guess I'm wondering is, are they correct in what they are telling me? Thanks!
