So after doing muc research it woul appear that Kia does not sell their own extended warranties? That is what i was told at the dealer. Anyway I purchases VSC from them called AllState Premium Car Care. It will be for the 60-10000 miles and 10 years. I was told it is called an exclusionary plan. That said, it lists typical things like fuel lines, brakes shoes, etc that are not covered. But, I can not find a list of everything that is covered. They said it is comprehensive and that everything not on the exclusion list would be covered. Of course the exclusion lists say “things like, such and such ae not covered”. It is not real specific. I wondered if anyone else had dealt with this Allstate policy. Thanks.

You are basically buying protection for 5 years and 40K miles (between the 5yr/60K mile bumper to bumper and the 10yr/100K point). Is the cost worth the protection you will hopefully get for 40K miles?

I would make sure they are VERY clear about what is/is not covered, because when you have a problem, they will certainly have a detailed list that will show you "that item is not covered". They should be able to provide that printed list to you now.

Will it cover things like UVO and some electronics that are actually only covered for 3yrs/36K in the new KIA warranty? (Folks are surprised that the KIA warranty is not in fact "bumper to bumper" for 5/60.

It's a gamble. These companies are not in business to provide a service that you benefit from. They are in it for $$. So are the dealers. On the other hand, one electronic repair (if it is covered) would pay for itself.

Like the great philosopher Dirty Harry once said, "Do you feel lucky?"

You and the dealer are correct. Kia does not sell a OEM (Factory) extended warranty. That said KIA does offer a Vehicle Protection Plan "Administered by Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc" under their name. This is as close to a OEM Warranty as you can get.
It is backed by KIA. The dealer sold you a 3rd party extended service agreement.
FYI I have the "Platinum" level 10 year or 100K miles which covers bumper to bumper with the exception of the usual ware items. It cost me $1900. But it covers all factory installed electronic items, which I feel is a good deal. Its just like any other insurance you buy, you don't need it until you need it. With KIA backing this warranty I feel I can bring my vehicle into any KIA dealer and should not get the usual BS for the repair. Time will tell.

I'm in the healthcare profession, and have personal experience with Allstate, who has the worst reputation of any insurance company I know of for not paying bills from injuries as a result of an auto accident. I have no idea if this applies to their extended car warranty, but I would be leary.

bailer - The extended warranty from Fidelity is not backed by Kia, I called Kia corporate to be sure. I looked up reviews on Fidelity which are pretty much all bad from people complaining about not getting covered. I would like an extended warranty, but I don't think I can trust a 3rd party one like Fidelity, especially with all the bad reviews.

John,

What I can tell you is the brochure I received from the dealer associated with the extended warranty states "Administered by Fidelity" and has Kia all over the brochure.

I also do recognize Fidelity has a terrible reputation/feedback from customers, but based upon the paperwork and associated paperwork I received it certainly looks like Kia uses Fidelity as their extended warranty partner.

That being said I did cancel my extended warranty with Fidelity. Have not decided what further action I'm going to take.

I believe that the 10 year / 100k powertrain warranty is also administered by Fidelity... which helps explain why comprehensive records are necessary in getting work performed at that stage.

bailer,

I called Kia corporate and was told that Kia is not in any way associated with extended warranties. I was also told that each Kia dealership is an independently owned business, and that they are free to sell whatever extended warranty they want, but again it has nothing to do with Kia.

Even though I would like an extended warranty because I plan on keeping my Sorento for a long time, I just don't trust 3rd party warranty companies to pay up if I ever made a claim.

I think I found the brochure you were talking about, in the fine print it does say that the Kia "Vehicle Protection Plan" is adminstered by Fidelity and it has the Kia logo on it. From my conversation with Kia corporate, I still don't think Kia backs it, but it would be worth calling them to clarify.

Joplin-Kia,

I looked through the Kia warranty information, and I don't see anything about Fidelity being involved. (click PDF on right for more details). Do you see it somewhere?

I’ve seen it referenced in this forum a time or two over the past few years. How accurate that info is... I don’t know. I will say that Fidelity most certainly administers the 10 year / 100k warranty if the vehicle is CPO. I have documention proving that fact since my Sorento is CPO and I read / signed that document at time of sale... but I have seen additional references that Fidelity is involved in the standard 10 year / 100k powertrain that applies to all new owners of Kia vehicles.

I definitely know Fidelity underwrites the 20 year / 200k powertrain warranty that many independent Kia dealers are now promoting with new vehicles. That document proving Fidelity’s involvement can easily be found online.

I just called Kia Corporate again. The agent I spoke to confirmed that the new Kia warranty is through Kia, including the 10 year powertrain warranty. The brochure I linked to above is for CPO (Certified Pre Owned), and that warranty is through Fidelity. Kia does not back it. Other extended warranties are not through Kia either.
