Does your A/C go warm when you floor it?

today I had the a/c on high and I floored my car to pass someone and I noticed the air coming out of the vents changed temperature...?? is this normal? Anyone else notice this.

no, never... how hot it was? could it be you overheated engine (just a little bit) and A/C shut off to let engine cool down first...

Absolutely normal. Your a/c compressor will shut off when you increase the power demand on the engine. If we had a big giant V8, this would probably not be an issue, but ever car that I've owned (biggest engine was a 3.0 V6) has done that to compensate for the relative lack of power.

Now, if the cooled air failed to return, that may be a problem.

On some vehicles the A/C doors are vac. operated. At WOT the engine vac. drops off and the doors shut. The A/C compressor might even cyle off. You are experiencing a normal function.

well, I did not use A/C so much (not so hot yet) but from time to time I floor it and NEVER had this situation. Neither with Rondo nor with Intrepid (V6 2.7, like Rondo)

the ecu will cut off the compressor if there is a demand for more power at the wheels. the use of the air conditioning system in these cars is more like the driver's request and not the driver's command. the ecu has the final decision in whether or not the a/c is used and if the ecu makes the decision that power needs to be used to power the wheels more than it needs to power the compressor, it cuts the power to the field coil until it feels that some power from the engine can be spared to run the compressor again. this is why on fly-by-wire vehicle, if the ecu goes into limp home mode, the a/c can't be used because it's working the engine in a limited power range and conserves all the power it can to get you to a shop or to get you home. as for the air warming up fast after the compressor cut off, did you happen to have the recirculate on or off?

I see the point but it still does not make a sense to me. Lets assume you floor it. I know Rondo, and I know when you floor it it will take maybe 3 seconds of use the full power to get to speed over speed limit. Unless you are driving in mountains and on steep uphill you need to maintain 75 MPH while towing trailer.

Go back to this 3 seconds period of time - it is not enough to warm up A/C.

Sometimes I do floor it, from say 30 mph to 70 to merge traffic, but it takes around 3-4 seconds, no more. And engine revs to approx 5500.

Its funny I ran into this post. My Optima did this just today as I was getting on the freeway. It was VERY hot here today, so any second without the compressor running, you can feel it. So I noticed the air temp changed very quick as I was speeding up. Once I got to 70, it was back to normal.

I haven't noticed this on my Rondo, and it's around 102F/40C most days recently here.

In fact I punched it today when I was driving back from Houston cause I needed to shoot into a gap in another lane. The transmission kicked down into 2nd gear and revs exceeded 6000rpm slightly. (redline is 6500 RPM on 4cyl Rondo) I didn't feel any change in the AC.

I haven't noticed this in my 2.4 & I drive alot(23,000 miles in 23 weeks),drive 'aggressively',and it's been 90F+ the last 10 days. My wife's '08 Saturn VUE 3.6 DOES give warm air on hard acceleration. Maybe Kia will redo their $6000 Rondo discount/rebate soon? (Bye,Vue,you irratate me on several fronts)

its quite normal for A/C to cut out at WOT. Many if not most do this.

However, since installing my Scangauge, the difference in HP readout is only about 2 hp more with A/C on at idle than with it off. that is to say, at idle with A/C off, SCII says hp is about 5.5. turn on the A/C and HP reading "jumps?" to about 7.5, FWIW. So
I wonder if its really worth it for a mere 2 hp gain. thats only about a 1.1% increase on a 175 hp Rondo.
