Spend a few dollars and let the dealer do it. Don't risk invalidating your warranty or doing something wrong and having to buy a new tranny. I understand a precise amount of fluid matching the fluid that comes out is critical.

i don't have any kind of warranty i bought it used, also ive done stick shift trans and auto trans before so i somewhat think i can get the fluid level right....the only thing that concerns me really is doing the filter change...also the fluid is brand name kia CVT fluid i already bought it

All Kia vehicles have 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and transmissions which is transferable when sold... the 5 year everything is not transferable... it is all up to you!

I'm not sure that's correct - could you post a reference to that?

However, the famous powertrain Kia warranty is not fully transferable to subsequent owners. Once the vehicle is sold, the length of the powertrain warranty is automatically reduced from a 10-year/100,000-mile term to a 5-year/60,000-mile term.

In the US, the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty is for the original owner and downgraded to 5 years/60,000 miles for people who did not buy the vehicle new or CPO(?)

i changed my fluid and filter today - was very easy....nothing went wrong

old fluid had 70k and was disgusting and black and the filter looked past due to be changed as well

whole job took less than 2 hours....just need basic sockets, and specifically a 24mm for the 3 transmission plugs....i used a hand pump to pump the new fluid in...i also took the airbox out and unhooked the battery...id rate it a 4/10 difficulty at most...we even used the old pan gasket

word of warning - don't let the 2 magnets in the pan slam together when you take them out to clean them off - one of mine cracked from the impact

knowing myself I probably will do the same, how many qts did it take?
just over 3 before it started leaking out
Very good to know this! Plan to change mine at 30-40k miles on my 2022
im coming up on my 2nd cvt fluid change

does anyone know if there's a 2nd filter of any kind on this system other than the primary CVT filter? I know the Versa has 2 filters on their Jatco CVT's
did 2 more of these today, only thing i can add is take the plastic shield on the driver's side half-off for better access to the pan bolts
I’m not sure why my previous post was locked for further replies. Not having my make and model in my profile?
Anyway, as the title reads I have a Kia Rio 2021 s and I would like to flush the transmission fluid and replace it. I have no idea how to start, I couldn’t find any manuals online. I’ve read that you have to pump out the fluid and the cap is in the side panel but I’m not sure.
Oh and another thing, I think it would be wise to also reset the transmission. Any idea how to do that?
Help would be appreciated.
Not to be a discouragement, but since you have so many questions you should not try doing this yourself.

Thank you but it’s a fairly simple operation I just have no idea where the actual drain and fill plugs are. That’s really the only issue. It doesn’t show where that is in the owners Manual.

Seems to me like asking g lots of questions is generally a very good place to start. It might be the only way to start.

I've changed trans fluids on a few cars, this one looks like it has a drain plug on the transmission oil pan. Mine also has a warning sticker saying not to change the transmission fluid.

Could you tell me where the drain plug is? If I’m being honest I didn’t look very hard.
I figure that would be easy enough to find but it’s the fill plug that’s probably in a bad spot. I honestly thought it would be one plug and I’d need a pump to get the fluid out.

Hey, would you mind going over the process for me in a bit more detail? Just the location of the fill plug and the filter. Fhanks.
