Hi,

I have a diesel MY11 Sedona (Grand Carnival here in Australia) with the 2.9L CRDi engine. It has significant turbo lag, which is most dangerous when starting from a standstill, eg. entering an intersection.

The vehicle is an automatic (sports auto), so we have just gotten used to driving it with the lag (ie. wait for spool up, or hold with the brake). However the danger is ever-present and I would like to see what can be done to reduce the lag.

It seems that there are chips available that advertise that they reduce turbo lag (I assume by allowing the turbo to spool up at lower rpm somehow). For example:

KIA Carnival(AU) | DPChip
KIA Carnival 2.9 CRDi (182 HP) | Products | STEINBAUER Performance
KIA Carnival Sedonda CRDi Diesel Chip Tuning by ChipMyDiesel - Performance, Power & Economy

So my questions:
1) Does anyone have experience of using a chip like these?
2) What impact on turbo lag?
3) What risk is there to the engine? eg. lifetime of parts.

Thanks guys,
Simon.
