Cranking, but not starting?

Recently bought this one and it left me stranded at my sons daycare, dead battery. I tried to jump it with no luck, so we popped the clutch and I drove it home. The next day I replaced the battery with a new one and it ran fine for a couple of weeks. Then I noticed my starter dragging when cranking.

Went by the auto store and they told me my alternator was bad, so I replaced that, same problem though.

Next I traced all the wires and found my wire from the alternator to the main fuse was bad. I ran a new cable and now I have between 14.1 to 14.8 volts to the battery with the car running load and no load. Before I had 12.4 to 13.1 while running.

My question is I noticed there was a secondary small gauge wire running along with the main wire. Does anyone know what this wire is for or what it runs to? It is crimped with the main wire on Bat+ and the car seems to run ok without it hooked up, but I have not checked extensively yet.

Thanks!

Ok I drove the car today and my voltage looks great. Started fine and all. I stopped to get gas and dead battery...would not start. Tried to jump it and still would not start. I ended up having to pop the clutch again to get it to crank and I drove it home. Checked and had 14.1 volts on it when running.

I am at a loss, Anyone have any clues what could be the problem? Could it be my my starter or wiring to my starter? Starter looks to have been replaced very recently.

Checked but was good. Been driving for few days now and notice that it starts when cold, but once it gets warmed up my starter drags and will not start.

Going to pull my starter tomorrow and go have it checked.
